Support for remote?

Thanks for the build, I have it running on a Pi3b+ and it's fine.

What I'm trying to do is give the pi to my mother-in-law with an attached USB stick containing some movies. Plug and go. She's non-techie so I need it to be easy to use. It has to work like RasPlex in that she will want to use the usual TV remote.

Is that possible? I'm aware that PlexPi is the server and not the Plex client, but any suggestions on a way to go will be helpful to me. I'm pretty much a pi newbie but ok with linux.

Thanks, John
You can use PlexPi as a standalone unit. You're right; it is a server, but it includes (and auto-loads) the Plex web interface on boot - so it can work either way, or both simultaneously.

A "tv style" remote won't do for Plex. You will want either an air mouse or preferably a wireless controller such as this (this is what I use): https://amzn.to/2GrtSiR

Notice that it includes a wireless USB dongle - so it's literally plug it in, and it works (no having to pair to bluetooth or re-connect after powering off, or any other nonsense).

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for the reply Robbie!

My intro to the pi has been with RasPlex and that uses OpenPHP which does have support for the tv remote, so magically my wife and 5 yr old daughter can navigate between the pi and normal tv using the same Panasonic remote. Happiness abounds Smile

"This is great, get one of these for my Mum!" she says. Which is fine except she wont have a server running, which is why I've come to PlexPi Smile

I think I've read somewhere that it's not possible to run PMS and PMP (or OpenPHT?) on the same pi. I'll look into whether that's correct or not. PMP support page says it will support tv remote but I might need to make up a mapping file.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Nice forum btw Smile
Cheers. I look forward to receiving an update!

Good luck!
