SNMP help

#11
I'm also interested in getting it working for my Cisco and Meraki switches and appliances.

Hi all,
Sorry - I'm coming into this discussion after NEMS 1.4 release (I've been too busy in development mode to be monitoring the community).

Could someone summarize for me what you need me to add?

Also, just a note that in NEMS 1.4 I compiled SNMP directly into Nagios 4.3.4 (see the changelogs) so I am wondering if this is all a moot point. Could someone confirm?

Thanks :) Looking forward to hearing your feedback.

sudo apt-get install snmp-mibs-downloader

and after you dont have any problem for missing MIBS.

You are correct. And YAY, this package was included in NEMS 1.4. :) Time to upgrade!

NEMS 1.4 is out and Robbie says that snmp-mibs-downloader is part of it.
I have checked apt list --installed  and results were

snmp/stable,now 5.7.3+dfsg-1.7 armhf [installed]
snmp-mibs-downloader/stable,now 1.1+nmu1 all [installed]
snmpd/stable,now 5.7.3+dfsg-1.7 armhf [installed]
socat/stable,now 1.7.3.1-2+deb9u1 armhf [installed,automatic]

I have looked at this SNMP.
This give steps on how to do command line applications but ...

  1. If I were to follow these steps, what effect would this have on NEMS?
  2. How is this implemented in NEMS?
Can you help with with some more details of how to use it in NEMS please?

Hi Guys,

Robbie's work has really paid-off with 1.4 - what a brilliant package 1.4 is! I have a question for the experts using Check_SNMP command...

Before when using NEMS 1.3.1, for example using the argument for up time below in Check_SNMP:

C public -o 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0

I used to get the output, for example:

Timeticks: (7565300) 21:00:53.00

However, with the exact same configuration in 1.4 and check_SNMP, it returns, for example

SNMP OK - 6763300

Doing an SNMPwalk confirms the RAW output still as Timeticks and the integer, but for some reason 1.4 is only returning the integer as the result of the argument, and not the human time-tick output.

Is anyone else seeing this behavior? Any workarounds or command changes anyone know of?

Many thanks in advance.

Dave.

Seems that in Nagios 4.3.2 SNMP outputs have changed:

I am going to try and work through this - anyone else had any luck with the above?

All the best,

Dave.

Hey Tech Dave,
Thanks for the note. I'm looking into patching NEMS 1.4+ to output SNMP responses the way you desire. Why did they change it?! Gah...
Others have already been through this, and some suggestions have been posted on the Nagios forums. I'm aggregating the various suggestions there and writing a patch. Hope to have it out to you by the weekend.
Thanks!
Robbie

It seems this was reported to the devs in October but still no movement.

Please see: https://github.com/nagios-plugins/nagios...issues/331

I'd suggest commenting on that issue, +1'ing it and letting the devs know this is important.

Hi all,
Just a happy update: the issue has been accepted as a bug by the development team of nagios-plugins, and a PR has been issued. Hopefully we'll see a commit soon and then I can re-compile for NEMS.
